Postcard datelined Shanghai 1904, from on board the SMS Aspern, in China to support the Alliance of 8 Country's occupation after suppressing the Boxer Rebellion. This is a very scarce representative from the small contingent of the Austrian Kriegsmarine in the Far East at this period. Austria had a relatively small Navy which became landlocked after WWI. Slightly worn; excellent, genuine used condition. With KuK Kriegsmarine Aspern.

Postcard canceled I.R. Spezizione Postale Canea, from Austrian marine landed to protect the Turkish garrisons on Crete and keep the general peace. With interesting hand-drawn descriptions on the back, locating the encampment at the north of the island 'directly in front of the landing ship'. also with humorous drawings/descriptions of the occupation, describing the Cretan [olive] oil of the highest quality and in infinite supply. Slightly won, in top condition, especially for a genuinely used card with period contents from the engagement, and a rare representative of the small contingent of the Austrian Kriegsmarine in the Greece-Turkish wartime arena.

So-called Petschili registered cover from Deutsche Auslandpostamt China / German Offices China during the Boxer Rebellion period, sent to the Austrian warship SMS Zenta, which at the time was in Nagasaki, Japan. With Japanese ricepaper[silk?] label reverse. A bit worn, folded in center, good condition for a genuinely used piece from this period in Chinese/Japanese/German/Austrian history. Expertized twice by Mansfeld.

Austrian covers were flown on this flight. This one was to a passenger who is marked "D. Bremen not on board" and "Zurueck" / "Return". Reverse has stamps "Nicht Besatzg" and "Nicht 3. Klasse" from August 6 and 7 -- variations of "not here". With both the black Bremen-New York cachet, an the purple Mit Luftpost cachet as well (2x premium) -- EUR2000+++

Postcard from Shanghai during the Boxer Uprising, showing the French Bund (consulate district), used with German China-overprinted Krone Adler issue stamp. From the crew of the Austrian warship SMS Kaiser Karl VI to a friend in Fiume. Signed by the crew int includes singatures of Ernst von Foerster, Brasseur von Kehldorf, and Georg Riter VON TRAPP, famed commander of the Austrian U5 submarine in WWI, and later for defying the Nazis in Salzburg -- the basis for the movie 'The Sound of Music'. An extremely rare piece of wartime and movie history, when von Trapp served his country in China aboard the SMS Karl VI during the Boxer Rebellion.

Shanghai street view UPU postcard from crew member aboard the Austrian gunboat SMS Panther on her 1905-6 trip to the Pacific. Franked with a Chinese 4c small dragon stamp and sent through her Chinese, French, and Austrian-Chzech postal systems, with SMS PANTHER handstamp and Prague receiver. Message on the front datelines the mail from the SMS Panther as well. Slightly worn, excellent condition. Rare.

An interesting document from the tiny contingent of the Austrian Imperial Navy on the Asia Station. A bit worn, but very scarce and in good, genuinely used condition.
