USA event cover with 5c Beacon airmail from the East St Louis airshow in 1929, autographed by inventor, navy commander, and later Vice Admiral Charles Denistoun Burney, and prominent booster for English dirigible power. When his schem for an airship fleet was alterd (the Burney Scheme) he still became the head of the subsequent Airship Guarantee Company which produced the R100 airship [thanks to Wiki for details]. Scarce, and with a great provenance: from the estate of the original collector, John Strauss, who collected these (and everything else Zeppelin) in the period as new issues / first flights. Sent to his home in Chicago.

England 1929 Major GH Scott Captain R34 R100 R101 Airship Zeppelin Autograph
USA registered return receipt cover for package signed for by Major George Herbert Scott, commander of the English R34, R100, and ultimately the ill-fated R101 whose crash took his life. Very rare, and with a great provenance: from the estate of the original collector, John Strauss, who collected these (and everything else Zeppelin) in the period as new issues / first flights. The clever collector sent a registered package to Scott's residence in Cardington, return receipt requested, so that the autograph was returned. With the collector's original typed explanation, completed before Major Scott's fatal flight the next year.
