...a dir le mie virtu basta un sorriso... / ...to say my virtues a smile is enough...: Rare Boccasile propaganda card for the RSI. The Italian artist produced propaganda for Mussolini's regime, and with the dictator's capture (and subsequent mountaintop rescue), moved to north as part of the RSI and joined the Italian SS, producing works such as this. I'm not supposed exact meaning -- German V2's ballistic missiles are raining down on an Italian city with a chortling Roosevelt appearing from the smoke. I guess since the south of Italy capitulated to the Allies the Germans are going to bomb them? Not a succinct message, at least to me, but a very rare card. Unused in excellent condition.

What An American Citizen Thinks About This War! Reproducing letters from a father to his POW son. These were dropped on Belgium in September 1944 and Matsbos, Holland, early in 1945 [Joe Nagl, via Psywarrior.com]. This is a slightly better example than the one illustrated on the Psywarrior site, and comes from the same source, with a provenance from the Nagl collection. Very, very few known.

Rocket leaflet prepared by the Germans for the Allies, extolling their secret weapon, the V1 rocket. This series is quite rare, with only a handful known to exist in England. There is a great article on the V1 leaflets on the Psywar website. Some V1's carried, in additional to their explosive payload, a small canister of leaflets which were deployed around the site of impact -- this is one of the few survivors. It's a four page (single fold) newspaper giving the current 'news', with a German slant, of course.

Feldpost cover from Italian at the Lager der Ordnungspolizei, H Coompany, in Heinrichsdorf by Ostrau, occupied Czechoslovakia. Sent through Munich with multiple censors.

Rocket leaflet prepared by the Germans for the British, extolling their newest secret weapon, the V1 rocket. Dropped on Allied troops in Italy in 1944 as they fought up the boot. Shows southern England burning, being stuck by a giant 'V1'. A little wrinkled and chipped; in very good condition for one of these. After all, these did fall out of airplanes onto the battlefield, and generally only survive after being picked up as curiosities by soldiers. Very scarce.

V1 POW Post are among the rarest known rocket leaflet series; prepared by the Germans for the Allies. Only a handful known to exist. There is a great article on these V1 leaflets on the Psywarrior website. These reproduce actual letters from British POWs. The idea was that the families of the POWs would respond to these letters, giving the Germans an idea of when/where the bombs were hitting, so as to provide feedback on their accuracy. The British authorities realized this and attempted to gather and destroy them all, which is another reason for their scarcity. It wasn't known at the time whether the letters were real or not, but after enough of the original letters turned up they proved that indeed the Germans were copying real POW letters. At least one POW's family (by published report) first learned that their son survived by way of one of these V1 rocket leaflets. Germany 3rd Reich Feldpost Cover from the Alpenvorland / Tyrol region of Germany, city of Meran -- (became Merano as part of Italy after that country successfully annexed the South Tyrol from Austria after WWI). While the Alpenvorland Dienstpost can be found on philatelic covers (primarily from Hennig) genuine uses are rare. This one was sent from a ethnic German family to their son at FP Nr 09079 with Gebirgsj�?ger-Regiment / Mountain Regiment 137.

Besides being adopted as a symbol by the Black Shirts (Camicie Nere), the fasces are still used in many US government seals, and were the main device on the back of our Winged Liberty (aka Mercury) dimes.
