Scarce Michel #6 (with Oak leaves watermark) on Streifband / periodical wrapper from Hannover to Hamburg. A bit worn, chipped, soiled, small holes at folds, as per scans. Solid 4 margin stamp; very old piece of philatelic history: expertized Koehler reverse, a leading 19th century dealer in Germany. Mi EUR1000.
Grossherzogthum Hessen Stempelmarke / revenue stamp from the Grand Duchy and German state of Hessen. There's even a tenuous American Revolutionary War connection here -- remember the Hessian mercenaries who fought here for the British -- some were direct subjects of King George who was ruler of Hannover (The British royal family is also a (large) part German) and others were hired/conscripted as mercenaries (see Wikipedia).
