Card from Lodsch / Lodz / Litzmannstadt Ghetto, stationery with imprint of 'Der Aelteste der Juden in Litzmannstadt' / 'The [Council of] Jewish Elders from Chaim Rumkowski. Slightly worn, soiled, genuinely used condition. A real piece of Jewish history. Note that the middle name 'Sara' was inserted in the address, and sara was used as the middle name for both sender and receiver reverse. Due to the Anti-Semitic Nuremberg laws Jewish women had to use "Sara" as a middle name and men had to use "Israel", so everyone would always know the person was Jewish. We've had court papers documenting the prosecution of individuals for not using these names as directed by law.
